The Clients

The Brief

Matchbox Pictures are a successful production company for TV and Film which boast some of Australia’s leading Directors and Producers. Their brand required a strong vision and enough character to be a cut above the crowded marketplace. Smart, eclectic and a sense of invention was the order of the day!

Our Response

After toying with some ambigious versions of a Matchbox, it really seemed that the beauty of the brand was in embracing the organic elements of their name. We decided to develop the familiar look and feel of a slide-draw matchbox – with a cheeky twist – one corner burnt through.

We searched for a strong typographic font, remodelled into a unique brand logo which forms a film spool at the center.

For all print and web collateral, we utilised the match elements to offset the cleanliness of the brand logo.

The Result

The six key clients/Directors were overjoyed with the result and their name, logo and identity have travelled to Cannes and back.

We are proud to have worked with some of Australia’s leading screen creatives and have our work associated with the likes of Matchbox Pictures Director, Tony Ayres, whose 2007 feature film THE HOME SONG STORIES, premiered at Berlin and won Best Direction, Best Screenplay and Best Lead Actress (for Joan Chen) at the 2007 AFI Awards, as well as winning 5 IF Awards! Fancy that!
